Fashola digraces Police on Okada

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola yesterday arrested a police officer, identified as Ebahan Johnson, who violated the new traffic law by riding his 100 CC commercial motorcycle popularly called Okada on the Agege Motor Road, Ikeja
 The governor accosted the police officer on the expressway during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in the Lagos-West Senatorial District of the state, while riding a red Bajaj motorcycle.
 The officer who resisted arrest earlier, succumbed when he realised that he was accosted by the governor, who had warned that Okada should not ply the express road with a motorcycle with such capacity and without helmet.
 Fashola on the arrest said: “There is no one that is above the law. If anyone cannot submit itself to the law of the state, then that person should please leave the state.” He warned that the state government would not condone violation of the road traffic law of the state, which was signed into law to bring sanity back to road transportation.

Nigerian basket baller shot to death for robbery

Reports say that a former basketballer with the Nigerian national basketball team, D'Tigers, Chinedu Onyeku, was shot dead in a failed burglary in that happened in Texas, USA on November 21, 2012.
The 29 years old former player was alleged to have broken into a residence on Rio Grande street, Plano with another person, who is now being tracked by the police. Chinedu was said to have been shot death by their alleged house burglary victim.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBF) has released a statement on the death of Chinedu, who played a role in Nigeria's qualification in the 2012 London Olympics but didn't make the team.
"[His] passion for playing with D’Tigers was deep-seated and he will be greatly missed. The federation joins his family and team mates to mourn a departed son, father, husband and great patriot," part of the reads.
It is still unclear if his remains will be flown to Nigeria for burial.

Aba man sets wife on fire

Pandemonium broke out in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State at the weekend when a man set his wife ablaze for complaining to her sister-in-law on phone about the husband’s alleged maltreatment .
The suspect later reported himself to the police. The man, whose name was given as Ndubuisi Okafor, a trailer driver, who hails from Amawbia, Awka in Anambra State, had allegedly been having quarrels with the wife for sometime now.

Germany allows men to have sex with animals

Newspaper die Tageszeitung reports that the governing coalition are soon to amend the country's Animal Welfare Act to make sex with animals punishable with a fine of up to 25,000 euros ($31,000).
Bestiality was legalised in Germany in 1969, the same year that gay sex was also removed from the criminal code. After that, sex with animals was only punishable if the animal was severely injured.
However animal welfare groups have pushed for the ban to be reinstated, in an advertising campaign that used dramatic examples of "animal rape".
Agriculture minister Ilse Aigner has agreed to change the law to make it illegal for people to "use (animals) for their own sexual activities or sexual acts of third parties" - which also bans the 'pimping' of animals to others.

Tinubu's son fails in Law school

Son of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) national leader and the Aare Ago of Egbaland, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oluwaseyi, was among the 1,552 Law School students that were not called to bar yesterday, Tuesday, November 19, 2012 after they failed their examinations.
Seyi, as he is fondly called, had earlier failed his Bar Part 1 examination but had to repeat the exam. He was admitted at the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School in Victoria Island.
Meanwhile, the former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the daughter of former Ekiti State governor, Segun Oni, Yemisi, were among the 3,896 that were called to the Nigerian Bar by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mariam Aloma Muhktar yesterday. The call bar ceremony was held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
About 5,449 students had sat for the August final examination out of which nine passed with First Class, 195 had Second Class Upper, 900 had Second Class Lower and 2,783 had Pass.
The 1,552 that reportedly failed the examination would therefore re-sit the examination.

MTN in trouble in Uganda

South African telecoms group MTN's chief executive and other senior managers have been summoned by a Ugandan court to face tax fraud charges, according to a document seen by Reuters on Tuesday.
MTN Uganda, the largest operator in the east African country, has previously denied the charges, saying they were initiated by a former employee sacked on allegations of theft.
CEO Sifiso Dabengwa and 12 officials including the chairman and CEO of MTN's Ugandan unit must appear in court on Dec. 12 when they will also face charges of tax evasion, conspiracy to make false customs declarations and conspiracy to evade taxes, according to a Nov. 7 summons issued by the Buganda Road Court.
MTN's website says a former worker, Naphtal Were, initiated the charges. Its statement also said an internal investigation and another by police implicated Were in the loss of 13 billion shillings ($5.0 million)
Were, whose lawyer was not available to comment, has since been sued by MTN for embezzlement. He initiated the case against the company as a private prosecution last month but a court ruled on Nov. 6 the public prosecutor should take it over.

President Jonathan's brother is dead

The younger brother of Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan is dead. Sahareporters, an online news agency that broke the story said Meni Jonathan is the president’s half brother and he died at the Aso Rock clinic.
The incident happened just as President Jonathan was receiving congratulatory messages today from all over the world as he celebrates yet another birthday.
Meni was taken to Aso Rock clinic when his health condition deteriorated in Bayelsa. Just as many thought that he was going to survive it, the man died. The cause of the death is not yet known,editors of saharareporters stated.

Police hunts for Terry G after hitting pedestrian with SUV

Controversial artiste, Terry G, has scampered to Benin Republic to evade police arrest after allegedly crushing the leg of a passer by, Moshood Azeez, with his Jeep on Oba Akran Road, Ikeja, Lagos State, two Saturday’s ago.
 The Apako Master crooner, whose wife recently delivered a baby boy in the United Kingdom, was reported to have visited Club Royal on Oba Akran Road and after enjoying himself with several wraps of weeds suspected to be marijuana, otherwise known as Indian hemp, entered his jeep, drove carelessly and allegedly crushed Moshood’s leg without looking back.
 He was said to have been chased by eyewitnesses to the incident but escaped on high speed. Moshood, who was still on the ground bleeding, was rushed to the Ikeja General Hospital after the attempt to stop Terry G failed. The case was reported at the MAN Centre Police Station, Wemabod Estate, Ikeja.

Last Friday, artist, Julius Igbinedione, 54, of Jikwoyi Phase III, Abuja, was arraigned before the Karu Senior Magistrates’ Court for assaulting his landlord’s wife, Mrs Ngozi Okafor.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Pascal Njoku, told the court that Igbinedione on Nov. 14, assaulted and threatened Okafor, of the same address, with a pestle. The accused pleaded not guilty

The Senior Magistrate, Mr Christopher Oba, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum. Oba said that the surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood and a traceable address within the jurisdiction of the court.

Bobby Brown in trouble again

Whitney Houston's ex-husband Bobby Brown has pleaded not guilty to drunk driving following his second arrest this year on similar charges.
The plea was entered by the R&B singer's lawyer in a Los Angeles court.
He also pleaded not guilty to two other charges.
Brown, 43, was arrested last month on suspicion of driving while under the influence - his second such arrest this year in Los Angeles.
He is also charged with driving on a suspended licence and not having an ignition locking device on his car, as required from a previous case.
His next hearing is on December 13.
Brown pleaded no contest to drunken driving in April, after being arrested in Los Angeles in March, and entered rehab in August under a plea agreement.
He released his first album in 15 years, The Masterpiece, this summer.
Houston died in February of an accidental drowning complicated by the effects of heart disease and cocaine, which was found in her system.
The couple's relationship was notoriously tumultuous, and the two waged public battles with substance abuse before divorcing in 2007 after 15 years of marriage.

Mystery behind high chief who hangs himself

Wednesday was gloomy for the Boboye family as of High Chief Oluwole Boboye hanged himself in his bedroom at his expanse compound in the serene community of Ibule at about 11.35 a.m.
 Boboye who worked at Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA was the Akorewolu of Ibule Soro, in Ifedore local government area of Ondo State before he took his own life.
 The suicide is especially puzzling as the victim had six children, one of them an undergraduate, a dutiful wife and a fairly good job.
 The late Boboye, who lived in Ibule, about ten minutes’ drive to his office, reportedly woke up that fateful morning and handed over N20,000 to the wife as housekeeping allowance, but with a statement which the wife could not immediately decode until it was too late.

Is Lagos house of assembly broke?

This seems not to be the best of times for the management and staffers of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Investigations revealed there is paucity of fund in the House, which prides itself as the most vibrant in the country.
There are fears in some quarters that the N600 million monthly allocation of the House may have been reduced drastically by the state government.
Impeccable sources revealed that unlike in the past, money has become a scarce commodity in the House leading to the introduction of austerity measures by the Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji-led management of the House.
A source insisted that the ugly development started shortly after Ikuforiji was accused of money laundering by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last year, which invaded the House and subsequently charged the Speaker to a court of law.
